Jan Pot (admitted to the bar in 2013) mainly litigates complex national and international patent disputes in front of the Dutch Courts. He also has experience assisting and representing clients in opposition and appeal proceedings at the European Patent Office. Clients appreciate his hands-on advice and ability to take the lead in complex matters.

Jan is also active as a Supreme Court litigator, having been admitted to the bar of the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. As such, he spearheads all of Brinkhof’s Supreme Court litigation, often in close coordination with the other attorneys at Brinkhof. Before the Supreme Court he represents clients in a broad range of IP- and TMT-related disputes.

Jan’s work has earned him recognition as a “rising star” by both Managing IP’s IP Stars and the Legal 500, and as “Up and Coming” in the 2021 edition of Chambers. Chambers reports that Jan is “experienced beyond his years“, “hugely hard-working” and “very good with the clients.

Jan is a member of the Dutch AIPPI program committee and regularly teaches courses on IP law. Furthermore, he is one of the authors of the loose-leaf commentary on the Dutch Patent Act. Before joining Brinkhof and being called to the bar, Jan clerked at the District Court of Amsterdam for several years. He studied law in Amsterdam (University of Amsterdam) and New York (Columbia Law School).
