Dorien Verhulst (admitted to the Bar in 2008) specialises in information law, with a focus on copyright, media and privacy law. She is flexible, pragmatic and quick on her feet. Dorien handles complex and fundamental litigation, but enjoys providing strategic and practical advice just as much.

Dorien handles cases about intermediary liability, notice & take down, the disclosure of user data and ‘the right to be forgotten’ for a variety of internet companies and digital platforms. She also advises and litigates about reputation protection with regard to old and new media, and handles cases about copyright infringement and piracy. In 2017, Legal 500 recognized Dorien as a rising star.

Dorien also has specialist knowledge of the regulatory treatment of audio-visual and electronic communications services. She regularly advises about media regulation, and handles civil claims for damages as well as administrative dispute and enforcement proceedings for telecoms providers. Dorien has specific expertise on lawful interception and the disclosure of customer data to law enforcement authorities by providers.

Dorien joined Brinkhof in 2007. She completed a secondment at Google’s Amster-dam office in 2011/12. She studied information law at the University of Amsterdam, during which she spent a semester at Fordham Law School in New York. Dorien is a member of the Association for Media and Communications Law and the Association for Copyright Law. As a guest lecturer, she teaches about ‘the right to be forgotten’, copyright & intermediary liability and lawful interception of communication services.
