Daniël de Weerd

Daniël is a lawyer at Brinkhof who specializes in the regulation of online platforms and artificial intelligence. He also represents clients in court proceedings, including class actions and commercial disputes. His technical background allows him to bring a strong quantitative and technical perspective to complex regulatory and litigation matters involving digital technology.

Experience & ancillary activities

Daniël has authored several publications on artificial intelligence law, addressing – among other issues – the intersection between EU intermediary liability law and generative AI, risks to be included in the systemic risk assessment process for general-purpose AI model providers and the scope of the prohibited practices in the EU AI Act.

In 2024, Daniël graduated cum laude with a master’s degree in Information Law from the University of Amsterdam. Prior to that, he earned his bachelor’s degree in Law at Utrecht Law College and obtained a second bachelor’s degree in Computer Science & Engineering at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). He was admitted to the bar in 2024.

Daniël serves on the editorial board of the legal academic journal AI-Forum and is a member of the AI Lawyers Association (VAI-A), Association for Media & Communications Law (VMC) and Association for Copyright Law (VvA).

  • Advising AI providers on the transparency and risk management obligations under the AI Act and the Code of Practice for GPAI models;
  • Advising a major AI provider on the interplay between the AI Act and European copyright law, including the text and data mining exception;
  • Supporting various online platforms in responding to requests for information by regulators;
  • Representing parties in court proceedings including class actions, commercial disputes and disputes regarding the right to be forgotten.
