“A former president of the European Patent Lawyers Association and a thought leader on the UPC.” – IAM Patent 1000
Richard Ebbink’s practice concentrates on European patent litigation. With conviction he represents international companies before the Courts of The Hague and beyond. He is internationally respected for his poise in coordinating parallel national proceedings (in Europe and the US) and EPO oppositions. His language skills (fluent in English, French, German, and Italian) particularly recommend him in the ever growing field of international patent conflicts. Richard is a member of the Advisory Board to EPLAW, the Association of European Patent Lawyers. Until recently Richard was EPLAW President.
In court Richard stands out. Chambers records: “Steady and well prepared, Richard Ebbink is held in high esteem by opposing counsel”, “He thinks more like a US litigator”, and: “He deserves the excellent recognition he has carved out for himself”. At the WorldLeaders International IP Awards ceremony in London a few years ago Richard won the Award for Excellence in Patent Practice/Litigation in Private Practice.
Richard is a regular speaker at conferences on the arrival of the Unified Patent Court (UPC) and the infringement and validity of European patents in the national courts. As member of the EPLAW Advisory Board he is pre-eminently placed to be aware of the most recent UPC developments. The UK blog ‘IPKat’ wrote about his qualities as a speaker: “Richard has long ago won this Kat’s admiration for his sheer brilliance”. Richard attended law school in Amsterdam and New York (Columbia University Law School; LLM, 1983).
