Jan Brinkhof

Jan Brinkhof is an authority in intellectual and industrial property law, with a focus on patent law. He was a part-time professor of Industrial Property Law at the University of Utrecht and has published extensively about patent and trademark law in particular.

In Chambers Europe Jan is recommended as “the leading light for the new generation of Dutch patent lawyers” (2009).

Jan was a judge from 1976 to 2000; in the last 8 years of this period as the Presiding Judge of the IP Chamber of the Court of Appeal of The Hague, dealing with patent cases in particular (in the Netherlands patent cases are exclusively heard by the courts in The Hague). He also regularly acted as arbitrator in patent matters. Jan was an external member of the Enlarged Board of Appeal of the European Patent Office from 1992 until 2000.
