Gerrit-Jan Zwenne

Gerrit-Jan Zwenne (admitted to the bar in 1998) has been a partner at Brinkhof from 1 February 2016. He specialises in privacy, telecommunications and internet law. In addition, Gerrit-Jan is Professor of Law and the Information Society at Leiden University.
 
Gerrit-Jan advises national and international clients, including start-ups, on privacy-related questions and additionally assists clients in telecom litigation, for example concerning frequency auctions or decisions by regulatory authorities on market analysis, interconnection and interoperability, end-user protection, telemarketing, cookies and spam. He has excellent contacts with regulatory authorities, ministries, parliament, civil society organisations and other stakeholders.

Gerrit-Jan is chairman of the Dutch Association for IT and Law (NVvIR); board member of the Dutch Privacy Law Association (VPR); lecturer and examiner of the VIRA Grotius programme for ICT lawyers; editor of the Dutch Journal of Internet law (TvIR), editor and author of Tekst & Commentaar Telecom- en privacyrecht (currently 5th edition 2015) and editor of the SDU Monografieën ICT-recht.
 
He was a member of the external soundboard group of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Sector ICT-projects, which investigated failed governmental ICT projects (Parliamentary Documents II 2014/15, 33 326, no. 5), and was chairman of the monitoring committee for the evaluation of the Dutch Bibob Act (WODC 2014). He currently is a member of the advisory board of PrivacyPerfect, a privacy data mapping tool.
 
Before Gerrit-Jan joined Brinkhof, he was first a lawyer with Buruma Maris and Houthoff and thereafter at Bird & Bird LLP, where he became a partner in 2006.
